Today is all about annotated sketches. You need to make an annotated sketch on a large sheet of butcher paper that can be displayed on the wall. Include dimensions and notes on materials. Standards:

There should be two activities going on today. First if you have not done so you should finish you evaluating alternatives rubric. Once that is done you should start working on final prototype sketches, remember they should be annotated. Exit Ticket: Leave a question on the parking lot. Standards:

Today you should finish your evaluating alternatives rubric and come to a decision on which of your prototype ideas you will construct. Exit Ticket: Leave a question on the parking lot. Activity: Today we are back to the grand challenge design project. Get your poster from the hallway then use the feedback that you received to help you complete the evaluating alternatives rubric. Today will serve as a makeup day. Those of you who failed to turn in a video for the Nevermore Insect Project will be given an alternative assignment to complete during class. If you turned in a video you are to work on anything in this class that you need to catch up on. If you are caught up you are to work on something for another class if you do not have anything to do I will find you something. Exit Ticket: You will need the entire time for the alternative assignment. Standards:

Today we will continue with the brainstorming process. Your teams are to take your individual brainstorming sheets and pick the 4 best ideas. Those ideas should go on a new sheet and you will hang that sheet in the hallway. We will have a gallery walk. Everyone will place a pink sticky note on each poster, other than their own, with a comment on an idea that they like. Everyone will also place a purple sticky note on each poster, other than their own, with some constructive criticism. We will then use the idea sheets to help us complete the evaluating alternatives rubric next week. Exit Ticket: Leave a question on the parking lot. Standards:

Bell Ringer: Use the link or QR code below to complete the bell ringer. http://goo.gl/MFjqq2 Activity: Today we move into the step 3 of the engineering design process, brainstorming. Engineers often use brainstorming to come up with solutions to their design problems. Use the chart below to help you with your brainstorming process. Teams will have 25 minutes to brainstorm as many solutions as possible writing their ideas on the paper that they have been given. Remember to use the brainstorming guidelines to aid you. At the end of the brainstorming session we will have a gallery walk during which you will write down what you like on a blue sticky note and suggestions for improvement on a red sticky and place it on the paper at each table.

This way you will also insure that you do not infringe on someone else’s intellectual property. Below are two good resources for conducting patent searches.
